Illinois REALTORS® honors Goodwin with Lifetime Service Award

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Real estate businessman, private property rights advocate and REALTOR® Daniel L. Goodwin was recognized with Illinois REALTORS® Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday, April 24, 2017.

Goodwin, who is chairman and CEO of the Oak Brook, Ill.-based Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc. (“Inland”) is the first recipient of the award, which was presented during a ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield.

“Dan Goodwin is an example of that rare person who excels not only as a businessman, but also as a compassionate leader who is interested in helping others realize the dream of property ownership,” said Doug Carpenter, president of Illinois REALTORS®.  “He stands apart for his wise counsel and as someone who has the interests of the real estate industry at heart.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an Illinois REALTOR® who has played a key role in shaping housing policy at the local, state and national levels. The award also recognizes an individual for adherence to the REALTOR® Code of Ethics with its emphasis on professionalism.

Attending the award ceremony was Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, who praised Goodwin’s passion for excellence.

“He’s what Illinois is all about; he’s what America is all about,” said Rauner. “He built a great, successful business, but he’s very generous. He gives back to the community and he’s involved in making our community better in every regard ... he’s a role model and an inspiration for everybody.”

A former Chicago Public Schools educator, Goodwin founded Inland with teacher colleagues and has built the company into one of the largest real estate and financial firms in the country. Since its inception, Inland has purchased and developed more than $44 billion in real estate properties, and has owned and managed property in 49 states.

Goodwin was recognized in part for his work founding New Directions Housing Corp., a Chicago-area non-profit which builds and manages affordable housing for low-income residents. In addition to his non-profit work, Goodwin served on the board of the Illinois Housing Development Authority.

A longtime supporter of REALTOR® causes, Goodwin is a member of the Chicago Association of REALTORS®, Illinois REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS® halls of fame. He is a 2015 recipient of the National Association of REALTORS® Good Neighbor Award, which recognized his longstanding commitment to affordable housing opportunities.

Illinois REALTORS®, which turned 100 years old last year, represents more than 44,000 REALTORS® engaged in all aspects of the real estate business. The Springfield-based trade association hosted the award ceremony as a kickoff for the organization’s annual REALTOR® Lobby Day and Capitol Conference.
