Building value for IAR's 41,000 members

An organization’s worth is measured by its effectiveness.

Sometimes this value is hard to gauge, like when a member makes a beneficial business connection during an IAR-sponsored networking event.

Other times, value is much clearer, such as when the Illinois Association fends off bad policy at the Statehouse or provides training in advance of a looming, state-mandated deadline.

This spring as we build on the successes of a resurgent housing market, I want to share a few things IAR is doing to build value for our 41,000 members:

  • We’re providing broker management continuing education training. Beginning in March, IAR set up webinars to help members get the hours they may need to maintain their managing broker licenses. With a deadline of April 30, it’s not too late to sign up for one of these sessions. Learn more.
  • IAR is battling against policies which hurt your business at the local, state and federal level. Although much of the attention in this year’s session of the General Assembly is on the state’s budget mess, there have been several items which, if left unchallenged, could saddle members with higher business costs. So far this spring, IAR’s team of advocates has battled a slew of issues including a proposed crime-free housing effort.
  • Your contributions to RPAC are helping elect officials who understand and support REALTOR® causes. For the first time this April, IAR targeted about 20 local races as recipients of Independent Expenditures (financial campaign support). IAR also identified more than a dozen Opportunity Races where the association felt it could make a difference by providing enhanced candidate support. Notably, six of those races were for REALTOR® members!

Finally, I urge you to make a trip to Springfield this month. The Illinois Housing Leaders Conference will be April 15 and the annual IAR Capitol Conference lobby day will be April 16. At last year’s Capitol Conference we filled the Statehouse rotunda with REALTORS®. Our numbers and our engagement on public policy get noticed!

Join me this year as we work to make IAR as relevant as possible.
