Wirth named REALTOR® of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Real estate broker Kay Wirth, ABR, CRS, GRI, LTG, PMN, SFR of RE/MAX Unlimited Northwest in Crystal Lake has been named the 2012 Illinois REALTOR® of the Year by the Illinois Association of REALTORS®.

The announcement was made Jan. 25 at the association’s Public Policy Meetings held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Riverfront Conference Center in East Peoria, Ill. Wirth will be honored at a March 28 banquet at the Hilton Hotel in Springfield.

The REALTOR® of the Year award is presented to a member of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® who best exemplifies the professional qualities of a REALTOR®.  The award recognizes leadership in the REALTOR® Association as well as service to civic, community and charitable causes.

“Kay has dedicated much of her career to help improve the real estate industry,” said Loretta Alonzo, CRB, GRI, president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. “She is passionate about making our business better for all of us and has shown that throughout her career by being active in her local, state and national associations of REALTORS®.”

A REALTOR® for more than 25 years, Wirth is a member and past president of the McHenry County Association of REALTORS® and received her local association’s REALTOR® of the Year award in 1997. She served six years on the McHenry County association’s Board of Directors and chaired the Nominating Committee.

Wirth was 2008 president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®, and served as a Leadership Liaison in 2004 representing the state organization to seven local REALTOR® associations in northwestern Illinois. She has served on the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors and served on or chaired association committees including the Executive Committee, Leadership Committee and the National Association of REALTORS® Political Advisory Working Group.

She has served with distinction on the Illinois Association of REALTORS® Economic Development Working Group, Professional Standards Committee and Public Policy and Governmental Affairs Member Involvement Group.

Wirth is active with the Women’s Council of REALTORS®, serving as president of the organization’s McHenry County and Illinois chapters. She served as a member of the national council’s Board of Directors and Leadership Development System Committee.

Wirth is a member of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee Board of Trustees and is recognized as a Major Investor for her RPAC contributions. 

For the National Association of REALTORS®, Wirth has served as a member of the Board of Directors as Region 7 Vice President, and as a member of the Sergeant at Arms and Federal Housing Policy committees.

Wirth’s service extends beyond her work with the REALTOR® organizations. She has been involved with the Court Appointed Special Advocates, which provides leadership and support in the development of programs whose volunteers advocate for children in the juvenile court system.

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® is a voluntary trade association whose 41,000 members are engaged in all facets of the real estate industry. In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, the Illinois Association of REALTORS® works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation that safeguards and advances the interest of real property ownership.
