CORE
COMPETENCIES
Core competencies are those essential programs and services that the
Association offers, allowing IAR members and firms to be more successful
collectively than they can individually while reflecting the
Association’s mission, vision and organizational objectives.
There are seven (7) Core Competencies that benchmark the 2007-2009
Strategic Plan:
• ADVOCACY
• LEGAL & RISK MANAGEMENT
• COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA RELATIONS
• BUSINESS PRACTICES AND STANDARDS
• PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
• ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
• OPERATIONS, ADMINISTRATION & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Each Core Competency has an associated General Objective that remains
constant for the Association throughout the three-year planning cycle
and serves as a foundation for the development of specific program plans
and budget/business plans that may evolve and change with the annual
budget.
ADVOCACY - General Objective
Provide a professional, political action system that presents a
proactive statewide and local government legislative, regulatory, and
grassroots program for the benefit of the member, property owner and
real estate marketplace.
LEGAL AND RISK MANAGEMENT - General Objective
Provide legal advice, opinions and representation for the benefit of the
member, property owner and real estate industry and provide assistance
to members to identify and reduce potential liability concerns.
COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA RELATIONS - General Objective
Provide relevant and timely flow of information to the membership; serve
as a liaison and coordinator of technology, research, housing data and
housing affordability; develop and maintain relationships with all forms
of media that further the value and quality of REALTORS.
BUSINESS PRACTICES AND STANDARDS - General Objective
Provide guidance and training in domestic and international business
practices and brokerage standards to the membership; promote the
adherence to and enforcement of the Code of Ethics.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - General Objective
Identify, provide, and promote professional growth through educational
courses, designation programs and programs to meet regulatory mandates
and risk reduction and evolving business practices.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - General Objective
Identify, develop and maintain a program that promotes and cultivates
domestic and international interest in Illinois through investment,
development and homeownership.
OPERATIONS, ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT - General Objective
Provide a high level of efficiency, effectiveness and stability in
Association finances, services, governance and programs.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Illinois Association
of REALTORS is the leading private property advocate in Illinois
and the recognized voice for real estate in Illinois. IAR
is an advocate for a healthy business environment
and a resource for its members to deliver ethical and
professional services to the public and to one another.
