Illinois REALTOR® Weekly Connection

NEW! IAR Consumer/REALTOR® Help Line

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® now offers aConsumer/REALTOR® Help Line to try and resolve questions relating to real estate transactions. The service is not set up to offer legal advice, but to serve as an intermediary in disputes or questions that relate to real estate transactions. The service, which is free to consumers and REALTORS®, allows IAR to tap the expertise of experienced real estate professionals who are trained in problem solving. These ombudsmen can provide guidance on what steps to take, suggest resources for additional help and in some cases can act as an intermediary in resolving basic problems.

Governor Signs Highway Advertising Control Act Bill Into Law

Gov. Quinn has signed into law HB 2764, a measure strongly supported by IAR. Public Act 98-56 was sponsored by Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) and Sen. Tony Munoz (D-Chicago). The legislation dealt with recent overreaching action by the Illinois Department of Transportation to require state permits and fees for real estate signs advertising the sale or lease of property or "on premise" business signs near interstate highways, as is required for billboards. The new law insures that REALTORS® will not be subject to new fees and state regulation. The law became effective upon signing.
