IAR Seeks Details on Section 8 Mandate in Cook County

Despite substantial REALTOR® opposition, the Cook County Board passed a measure last week making it a human rights violation for landlords to opt out of the federal Section 8 housing program. IAR advocates are working to get details on how the new policy will impact members before it goes into effect Aug. 8. STOPPED! Lake County Recording Fee Bill Fails

Senate Bill 1244 authorizing Lake County to impose an additional surcharge on the recording of real estate documents failed in an Illinois House committee. REALTOR® Income, Business Activity Up for Second Year

An improving housing market meant a better bottom line for REALTORS® last year. The median gross income of a REALTOR® was $43,500 in 2012 compared to $34,900 in 2011 and the median number of transaction sides or commercial deals handled in 2012 was 12, an increase from 10 in 2011, according to the 2013 National Association of REALTORS® Member Profile.

How Much Are We Spending on Home Improvements?

Owners spent a median of $3,200 on improvements to their homes between 2009-2011. More than half (57 percent) of U.S. homeowners made improvements, with nearly one in four choosing to make energy efficiency upgrades, according to the American Housing Survey.
